A friend asked for some pillow covers for Halloween and I thought I could use the ghost pattern I have by Then Came June & Pen + Paper Patterns, I’ll just have to resize the block because these are 24-inch pillows. If you want to take a peek at the ghost pattern you can find it here. She asked if I could also add a pumpkin and so I sat down and came up with a scrappy pumpkin block pattern.
This block will finish at 6 inches.
First you want to gather your scraps. You will need to cut the following:
Background –
(2) 3 1/8″ X 2″ rectangles
(4) 2″ squares
(1) 1 1/4″ square
Stem –
(1) 1 1/4″ square
(2) 1″ squares
Orange –
(4) 2″ x 5″ rectangles

Start by laying out your pieces how you want them and draw a diagonal line on the back of the 2″ background squares and the 1″ stem squares.

Sew along the lines and press them out and then trim the excess 1/4 inch from your seams. I like to press first and then trim as it gives a little extra stability, and you can line up your corners for a more accurate snowballed corner.
Also, sew your 1 1/4″ stem and background squares together.
You should have something that looks like this.

Just sew your pieces together across both rows…

And then sew the two rows together and Ta-Da!! A super simple pumpkin block you can use for all your spooky season needs!
